X-EMU
Development and Validation of a High-Power-Fuel-Cell-Drive-Train for Hybrid-EMU-Railways
The project aims at developing a modular hybrid traction systems for trains with fuel-cells and a high-power batteries. Therefore the partners Siemens AG, Ballard Power Systems und RWTH Aachen University create a deep understanding of the components and their interaction. This goal is reached by developing a hardware- in-the-loop (HIL) test-bench at RWTH Aachen University.
Participating institutes are VKA, IEM and ISEA.
ISEA focuses at research questions on the optimal battery solution for the modular traction system (high power battery cells, efficient cooling solutions, optimal operating strategy).
