To achieve the climate goals, the transport sector has to considerably reduce the carbon dioxide emissions. This also requires the assessment of alternative drivetrains for the energy intensive application of long-haul transportation. In this thesis, three currently discussed electrification concepts for long-haul transportation are considered, which potentially can replace the fossil powered drivetrains: Battery electric, overhead catenary and fuel cell electric trucks. To investigate the energy consumption of these alternative trucks and of the conventional trucks, the vehicle simulation models are derived in this thesis. Afterwards, the drivetrain components are dimensioned according to the requirements of long-haul transportation and their integration into the vehicle is investigated. Alongside with the technical feasibility, the life cycle costs of the considered alternative trucks as well as of the corresponding infrastructure consisting of charging stations, catenary systems or hydrogen stations are assessed. The life cycle costs are calculated and compared for different dimensioning scenarios of the trucks and the infrastructure (i.e. battery capacity and catenary length). Additionally, the performed life cycle analysis incorporates the manufacturing and the use phase of the considered trucks and the infrastructure and shows the environmental impacts depicted by the categories global warming potential, primary energy demand, acidification potential and eutrophication potential.
