The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research annually award the Drive-E-prizes for the best master and bachelor theses. Lukas Ruppert achieved the second place for his master thesis about the development of a highly efficient traction inverter for solar-powered electric vehicles. A highly efficient gallium nitride semiconductor technology and an innovative converter topology were used. The inverter was installed in the "Sonnenwagen" of the RWTH, which takes part in the annual race of the World Solar Challenge in Australia.
