On October 28, 2022, Professor Dirk Uwe Sauer gave a talk in Lüneburg on the topic of "Woher können Strom, Wärme und Treibstoffe kommen?" (Where can electricity, heat, and fuels come from?)
During the symposium 'Transformation of the Energy System - Critical Paths of the Energy Turnaround', which took place on Friday, February 18, 2022 at the Academy of Sciences and Literature Mainz, Prof. Dr. Dirk Uwe Sauer gave a lecture on the topic '65% CO -Reduction until 2030 - What does that mean for the transformation of the energy supply, mobility and battery technology?'
Prof. Eduard Heindl: Energy Talk #009 with Prof. Sauer (german)
The mobility sector must become CO2 neutral to achieve the required reduction. Different technologies are available, but each has its advantages and disadvantages and requires infrastructures. The seminar will analyze the state of the art, global markets and forecasts for dominant technologies in the different mobility sectors.

Seeing is believing! Nachhaltige Energieversorgungslösungen des E.ON Energy Research Centers
Market liberalization and concerns about climate change have stimulated an increased use of distributed power sources such as combined heat and power and renewable energy systems. To cope with the volatility and the wide spread use of alternative power supplies and storage systems, novel concepts for the grid integration, automation and control is needed. In addition, energy efficiency and demand side management are enabling technologies to master the balance between supply and demand. Influencing the energy consumption and production habits of prosumers requires detailed analysis to estimate the resulting effects on the future energy system. Consequently, energy research must not only concentrate on solutions of individual technical problems. It is equally important to devise comprehensive interdisciplinary approaches to and studies of complex questions.

Project Nautilus
A simplified video shows benefits of replacing diesel engines by novel energy technology developed under the NAUTILUS project whose aim is to significantly reduce emissions produced by maritime transport The NAUTILUS project, a short for Nautical Integrated Hybrid Energy System for Long-haul Cruise Ships is a research project funded under the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme. The NAUTILUS project aims at developing, evaluating and validating a highly efficient power generation system fuelled by Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) for long-haul passenger ships. The to be developed system will cut greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 50% and all other soot emission components almost entirely. A novel energy technology will be applied on a cruise ship. The concept consists of a Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC)-battery hybrid genset integrated with existing Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) generators and in following step generators will be replaced by hybrid system fuelled with renewable fuels. The suggested technology will offer higher efficiency, improved dynamic capability, fuel flexibility, modularity and lower maintenance due to fewer moving parts and will be one step towards greener maritime transport.
