Inauguration of the CARL research building
With CARL - the Center for Ageing, Reliability and Lifetime Prediction of Electrochemical and Power Electronic Systems - a research center for batteries and power electronics has been established in Aachen that is unique on a global scale. RWTH Aachen University and Bau- und Liegenschaftsbetrieb NRW (BLB NRW) will officially open the building, which was financed by the federal and state governments, on Friday after two and a half years of construction.
In the presence of the Minister for Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia Ina Brandes, the representative of the BMBF Dr. Stefan Jung, the Managing Director of Bau- und Liegenschaftsbetrieb NRW Gabriele Willlems, the Rector of RWTH Aachen University Prof. Dr. Ulrich Rüdiger and Prof. Dr. Martin Winter, WWU Münster, Helmoltz Institute Münster and the Research Center Jülich, the building was ceremonially handed over on 03.02.23. Mrs. Ute Willems, Branch Manager of BLB Aachen symbolically handed over the key.
With its comprehensive laboratory equipment, materials, cells, modules and entire systems can be investigated holistically for performance, reliability, safety and service life in the new CARL research building. As a result, development cycles from new materials through efficient production processes to market launch can be significantly accelerated. This will significantly strengthen Germany's and Europe's competitiveness in the key technologies of batteries and power electronics.
We were very happy about the numerous visitors who celebrated this special day with us! Our thanks also go to all the many people who have made this building possible and now fill it with life.
