Diesel-hybrid vehicles for an environmental friendly mobility

  DUETT

DUETT is exploring a new development methodology that will enable the cost-effective introduction of optimized powertrain technologies in the context of digital, networked mobility. For this purpose, real-time capable, scalable models of powertrain components are coupled simultaneously and in real time. This networked system development in the virtual vehicle environment allows parallelisation and digitalisation of the development process, including the integration of the overall system as well as environment information and vehicle operating strategy. The developed methodology is evaluated with the use-case of a Diesel-hybrid power-train.

Within the framework of DUETT, ISEA is developing novel real-time simulation models of electrical components of the hybridized powertrain. In the future, these will make it possible to virtually test the function of DC/DC converters, battery packs and battery management systems in the overall system at an early stage of vehicle development, long before the actual hardware is available. For example, the battery model to be developed as part of DUETT, maps the electrical and thermal behavior of a high voltage battery system at the individual cell level and with scalable spatial resolution, and is also able to simulate an aged battery. This can be used, for example, to investigate how the requirements for battery cooling and operating strategy evolve over the lifetime of the system. The associated model of the battery management system allows the development and testing of the necessary algorithms for determining the state of charge or power prediction under realistic conditions and with optimization for the boundary conditions of the application.
